Weight Lifting Tips

Weight lifting aims to not only improve your muscles. It also can improve a person’s overall health and well being. People have been becoming more conscious about their weight and have been resorting to toning and strengthening their muscles. However, weight lifters should also keep in mind to make safety their number one priority.Find an atmosphere you’ll be comfortable in. If the gym in your local area is too crowded or for some reason is an environment that you think may de-motivate you, then work on building a home gym. Most traditional weight lifting exercises are performed by using basic free weights (meaning a pair of dumbbells, or a straight barbell) and/or a reclineable bench. This makes it affordable to workout and still be in the comfort of your own home.

The first thing you need to do is set some goals for yourself. Ask yourself what you would like to accomplish. Where would you like to see your body in six months and then in a year? Do you want to lift weights to gain strength for sports? Do you want to lift weights to look good at the beach? Do you want to lift weights to get stronger? Once you can figure out why you want to lift weights you will have a great motivator to continue lifting weights.Weight lifting is basically composed of two critical motions – the snatch and the clean and jerk. The snatch consists of pulling the bar in one swift motion from the floor the length of a full arm overhead. Bending the legs quickly as the bar is raised makes the lift easier. This enables the athlete to catch the bar at an arm’s length. The combination and strength and speed is perhaps the most important part of the snatch. The clean and jerk motion consists of lifting the bar to full arm’s length as well. The clean and the jerk are technically two different actions.

If your goal is to build muscle mass, then you need to make sure and stick with the basic free weight compound exercises that have been proven to build muscle mass. Exercises like barbell squats, bench press, incline press, dead lift, straight bar curls and lunges allow you to move heavy weights through a complete range of motion that involves multiple joints and major muscle groups. These types of exercises allow you to stimulate more muscle growth than single joint isolation exercises. When you lift weights, it’s important that you do so in the right rhythm to maximize your gains. One rhythm which is proven to yield results is to push the weight up for 2 seconds, squeeze your muscles at the top of the motion, then let the weight down for 3 seconds.

You can perform a variation of the same workout routine using free weight. Adjust the grip widths and bench angles for bench presses and they will allow for a more variability in one form of workout. Machines offer a limited variability in an exercise routine, compromising overall muscle development. Many beginners make the mistake of focusing on both bulking up and losing body fat. While results may vary, this method is technically not possible. When you are bulking or gaining weight there is an increase in caloric intake. When you are losing weight you are creating a caloric deficit. Do you see the problem here?? Your efforts will be cancelled out. It is important to focus on one thing at a time.
